Building a successful brand means telling an accurate and positive brand story and then making sure that customers’ experience of that brand meets or exceeds that promise.

Our success in public relations, social media, marketing and community relations stems from our ability to achieve solid teamwork with our clients. Together, we tell a positive, credible story and then we help our clients deliver on that promise.

The first priority is to avoid over-hyping the story. Good journalists sense when a story is overblown and they tend to ignore it. For example, a café can say that it has the “world’s finest coffee,” but is that likely to be true? No, since only one café in the world can serve the world’s finest coffee!

A false boast might grab attention in the short run, but it will ultimately lessen the brand’s credibility, foster mistrust, and diminish the brand’s reputation.

At Kurman, we do it in a much more effective way. In the café example, we would tell the marketplace that the café’s coffee is excellent and describe the reasons why. That is a claim that the café can back up and it is up to the café to deliver on that promise.

If the café consistently serves excellent coffee, and the coffee is good for the reasons mentioned in the brand story, customers will agree with and remember their message. They will trust in their brand, and help spread the word about the café and its excellent coffee. That’s because the brand experience matches the brand story.
